GLEN ARMSTRONG BUILDERS

House of the Year Entries

Its an absolute privilege to have entered three of our homes into the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition. Not only does it give our company recognition of our work, but also our sub contractors.

These awards give us reassurance that we are on the right track with our quality of work and these awards cannot be achieved without the passion from our tradesman, sub contractors and staff.

Puketaha

This was the first home we entered into the Registered Master Builders House of the Year, and we won a silver award for this property in 2019 in the Waikato New Home $600,000 -750,000 category.

Classic yet contemporary, this 277sqm home basks in 5077sqm of private scenic countryside just outside Hamilton. The home looks quintessentially Kiwi in its outfit of bevelled-back timber weatherboards capped off with corrugated roofing.

The interior layout incorporates four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a formal lounge and a separate kids’ lounge. A media room has the potential to be closed off from the rest of the home for movie or sports nights.

Large bifold doors to the northern side of the house open the interior to the great outdoors. All living areas gather round a generous patio and deck where you can sit back and watch the sun set.

A bifold window off the family kitchen streamlines serving when entertaining alfresco. Beautiful stone benchtops and a generous butler’s pantry are just two more great features of this contemporary kitchen.

A simple yet striking colour palette flows throughout, enhancing the home’s light, open feel.

All four bedrooms offer loads of personal space with the bonus of walk-in wardrobes.

Grattan Road

This home won us our first gold award at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year in 2022, in the Waikato New Home $500,000 - $750,000 category. We also made the National Top 100.

Surrounded by a lush rural landscape and the picturesque Mt Te Aroha and Kaimai Range, this 248sqm family home requests you leave stress and worries at the door as it welcomes you in.

A palette of black coloursteel and pale brick wraps the home in sophisticated style. This classic combination flows to the interior where carefully considered black fixtures and fittings create instant impact against cool white and greys.

Hard-wearing and low-maintenance polished concrete floors are both practical and good looking, lending architectural appeal. The pitched ceiling in the kitchen and dining area adds volume to this much-used space.

From here, laid-back living flows out to the covered courtyard and pool. For at-home movie nights, there’s a second living room that can be closed off behind a barn-style door. With four large bedrooms, two bathrooms, and multiple living areas, this spacious family home provides room and privacy for everyone. The main suite even has its own patio.

Designed to endure the vagaries of trends and built to last, this elegant residence will no doubt offer its owners years of happy memories.

Manawaru

We entered this Manawaru property into the Registered Master Builders House of the Year 2023, and won a gold award for our efforts in the Waikato Altus Window Systems New Home $750,000 - $1 million category.

There’s enough natural light in this house to put everyone in a good mood — an abundance of it fills the rooms, creating a warm and extremely cheerful atmosphere. The 270sqm home, in a picturesque rural setting, has space aplenty.

Traditional cladding adds charm to the exterior and the spaces, including four bedrooms, two living rooms, an office, two bathrooms, a separate laundry and loads of storage, are beautifully proportioned. The open-plan layout allows for easy interaction with the rest of the family, ensuring no one misses a beat.

A large kitchen, equipped with sleek stone benchtops and top-of-the-line appliances, is a gathering point, perfect for family get-togethers. From the open-plan living space, everyone has a clear view of the action, and happy family memories are made in front of a focal-point woodburner with its impressive natural stone surround. For those who appreciate the outdoors, expansive kwila decks provide the perfect spot to soak up the sun.

Savour a morning coffee while admiring the magnificent views of the Kaimai Ranges or enjoy a late-afternoon beer as the sun sets over the neighbouring farm. This gem of a house is contemporary, light-filled and practical: the essence of family living.
